Elbow barb fittings are used, often in conjunction with hose clamp pneumatic fittings, to secure hoses to hydraulic components and pneumatic equipment. Elbow barb fittings can be made of brass hydraulic components for hot-water applications, and plastic pneumatic components may be used for cold water; brass is considered more durable for heavy-duty use. Elbow barb fittings are generally used when there is a need for a change of direction, usually a 45° or 90° transition.
