Straight barb fittings are used, often in conjunction with hose clamps, to secure hoses to hydraulic and pneumatic components. Barb fittings can be made of brass hydraulic components for hot-water applications, and plastic hydraulic components may be used for cold water; brass is considered more durable for heavy-duty use. Straight barb pneumatic fittings are generally used when there is no need for a change of direction within your application.
